Suicidality in Serious Illness Care: Cultivating a Therapeutic Presence for Veterans and Vulnerable Populations

Join the Alliance’s webinar exploring the complex challenges of suicidality in serious illness care, with a focus on Veterans and other vulnerable populations. Participants will explore the epidemiology, risk factors, protective factors, and psychosocial drivers of suicidality in the context of serious medical conditions, including advanced cancer and progressive chronic disease.

Drawing from evidence-based models, the session introduces validated screening tools and emphasizes the clinical utility of psychological formulation, countertransference awareness, and ambivalence mapping. Through real-world cases and practical frameworks, clinicians will learn how to cultivate therapeutic presence and integrate accessible, dignity-preserving strategies to support patients navigating profound existential distress.
