WWII 70th anniversary: A kiss cast in bronze comes to R.I.

The life-size 600 pound bronze sculpture, “Unconditional Surrender” mounted to the bed of a donated U-Haul pickup arrived in Rhode Island from Hamilton, NJ.

The R.I. Hospice Veteran Partnership borrowed the sculpture to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the end of WWII. To read more on this event and the HVPs Spirit of ’45 event please click here.

The Rhode Island Hospice Veterans Partnership (RIHVP) held a “Kiss-in” at the RI air show on Saturday & Sunday May 30 & 31st.

The RIHVP set up a booth during both days at the event to give out spirit of 45 buttons and memorabilia. They invited every couple who attended the air show to come back to the booth to “Kiss-in” like the couple in the famous “kiss” photo at the end of WWII. As you can see in the photo, many couples joined our “kiss-in” and Mario Hilario of WJAR news interviewed RIHVP and filmed the “kiss in” on Saturday, May 30th.

The RIHVP planned this event to promote their upcoming RI Spirit of ’45 event on Sunday, August 16th at the WWII Memorial in Providence, RI. To learn more information on where the event will be held, please visit Spirit of ’45.

Hospice & Palliative CareCenter in North Carolina began facilitating Veteran coffee events with Veteran attendees from Desert Storm and the post 9/11 conflicts through WWII. In addition to Veteran attendees, other organizations that provide Veteran services, programs and activities join and discuss their offerings. The events have become a way to help connect the dots between Veterans who might need help, and organizations that can provide it.

The coffee events have become a place for Veterans to connect with other Veterans and have a place to relax, enjoy free coffee, pastries and conversation. Read more (link is external) about these special coffee events.
