Creating Connections in the Veteran Community: Residential Hospice Partners with Veterans Radio

A story from our Hospice Partner

Residential Hospice, Troy, MI

Submitted by Lia Farber, Hospice Volunteer Coordinator

Engaging in Veteran community events enables attendees to forge unexpected and impactful partnerships. Such was the case when Residential Hospice connected with a Veteran-focused radio station at a recent statewide conference.

In April 2023, Residential Hospice of Troy, MI sponsored Dr. Qwynn Galloway-Salazar, a Veteran End-of-Life educator and colleague of We Honor Veterans, to attend the “Others Over Self” Veteran Leadership Conference in Detroit, MI. Dr. Galloway-Salazar and Residential Hospice quickly bonded with a neighboring attendee of the conference, Veterans Radio. Veterans Radio is a Veteran advocacy and education organization that hosts weekly radio programs geared towards Veterans across the nation. Residential Hospice and Veterans Radio, though distinct in their organizational operations, instantly connected over their shared mission to advocate for, serve, and support Veterans. The two organizations are united in their efforts to improve Veterans’ quality of life.

Residential Hospice described the impact of their involvement with We Honor Veterans on their capacity to address the physical and emotional needs of Veteran patients. Inspired by this work, Veterans Radio invited Residential Hospice to sponsor their upcoming 20th anniversary event, “Radio on the River.” Sponsoring this event enabled Residential Hospice to broaden their reach within the Veteran community. At “Radio on the River” representatives from Residential Hospice’s We Honor Veterans program engaged in conversation with Veteran attendees, answering questions and providing information about the Veteran-centered care that Residential Hospice prioritizes providing.

In their next joint endeavor, Residential Hospice will be welcomed as a guest on Veterans Radio’s October 29th radio show. Residential Hospice plans to present on the benefits available to Veterans through their Continuum of Care program. Residential Hospice looks forward to deepening their relationship with Veterans Radio as a way to continue providing exceptional care for the Veteran patients they serve. This unlikely partnership underscores the value of actively engaging in Veteran community events.

See below for details on tuning in to hear Residential Hospice on Veterans Radio on Sunday, October 29th at 5pm.
