Veterans Day 2017 Stories

Below are stories and videos of events and ceremonies that partners shared for Veterans Day 2017.

The story of SCAH hospice patient Carl Hartman, began on a Veterans Day when he was honored for his service in the US Air Force. Carl served in Vietnam and stated he had never been thanked or honored. This recognition touched him very deeply. Over the next several weeks he started talking to his family about what he would like to have happen when he died. He told his daughter he would like to donate his mobile home to a fellow veteran. After working with several veterans’ organization a recipient was picked. Tucked inside a closet, the new homeowner found another special gift-Carl’s American flag. His daughter chose to carefully leave it behind; to hang high outside the door, in the same way her dad had done. With honor.
