Mountain Hospice recognized Vietnam Veterans on March 29, 2021. Veteran – to – Veteran Volunteers and the Volunteer Coordinator – Patty Delauder recently visited some veteran patients that served in Vietnam for a “Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day” recognition. Each Vietnam Veteran received a lapel pin and a certificate of recognition, as pictured in the photo, a veteran patient that served in the Vietnam War in active combat. Veteran Volunteer Marvin Brown pinned the patient. The patient receiving the recognition not only served in active combat where he was injured, but he reports that he also served former President Richard Nixon as his escort to and from events. The patient states, “I was very honored to receive a certificate from the former President Nixon. The patient reports, “it took me getting on hospice to receive a Welcome Home and Thank You.” During the pinning, the family was present, and his spouse took the Veteran Volunteers and Volunteer Coordinator to the patient’s room, where he and she once shared. She showed the team all the certificates and recognitions the veteran patient had received. Mountain Hospice is partnered with the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization and the “We Honor Veterans Program,” where the organization is a Level 5 partner in the “We Honor Veterans Program.” The Volunteer Coordinator, Patty Delauder, reports that “We are very proud to provide services to the veterans in Barbour, Randolph, Pocahontas, Pendleton, Grant, and Mineral Counties.”
