Introducing PTSD Treatments to Your Patient: Learning from the Patient Perspective

April 17 @ 2:00 pm 3:00 pm

This presentation, led by Sadie Larsen, PhD and Lisa Cuccurullo, PsyD, will help providers to think about how best to communicate with patients about PTSD treatment options in a way that will encourage patient autonomy and consideration of best practice treatments.

Results of new studies that examined patient perspectives on how providers talk with their patients about PTSD treatments, as well as how patients and consumers interpret treatment names, descriptions, and concepts, will be shared. The talk will use a framework of Shared Decision-Making (SDM), which is increasingly recognized as a best practice when deciding on treatment options, yet very few studies have examined how best to conduct SDM in a mental health context. This presentation will provide an overview of the tenets of SDM and the studies of SDM in the context of PTSD.
