This live, interactive webinar will create the foundation for the End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC) curriculum. It is an overview of the need to improve palliative care for Veterans and the role of the nurse and broader interprofessional team in providing quality care. Basic definitions and principles of hospice and palliative care are presented within a quality of life (QOL) framework. There are gaps in current interprofessional systems of care for Veterans and families at the end of life across venues and settings of care. This module presents an overview of standards for end-of-life care, specifically for Veterans and their families, including physical and psychological symptoms, spiritual and existential concerns, and social issues and resources. It will also present an overview and timeline of VA’s commitment to improve and advance palliative care for all Veterans and their families.
CE credits are available, to receive credit register through the VHA Train website at registration.
