This module addresses some key psychosocial issues that are important to consider in the care of Veterans in palliative care. These issues are not entirely unique to Veterans, and although they may be more common in certain Veteran populations. For example, while Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is recognized as a common condition among combat Veterans, not all combat Veterans have PTSD and non-Veterans may have PTSD related to non-military related trauma. However, VHA has expertise in the recognition and management of these conditions and has often developed programs.
